ARCHIVE: This is my newest painting Ocean Of Love. Here you can see how my paintings begin and evolve. I create a sketch on canvas (barely visible above) and then work directly over that laying down an overall first layer of paint (above and left). I then rework the entire surface several times using thin translucent layers to bring subtle nuances of shadow, light and color all together in what I call a "live tapestry of light". The refractive index of oil paint allows me to create a deep lustrous image that glows in a unique way as the light hits it. As a result my paintings have a quality of life-likeness that is quite engaging. They provide constant interest as they have a tendency to change as lighting conditions shift throughout the day. — Leslie Montana
